SACRAMENTO KINGS INTERIM HEAD COACH

Alvin Gentry is the Interim Head Coach of the Sacramento Kings. On November 22, 2021, Gentry became the 28th Head Coach in Kings history.

Prior to the Kings, Coach Gentry was the Head Coach of the Miami Heat (1995), Detroit Pistons (1998-1999), Los Angeles Clippers (2000-2003), Phoenix Suns (2008-2012), Los Angeles Clippers (2013-2014), Golden State Warriors (2014-2015), and New Orleans Pelicans (2015-2020). Coach Gentry has also been an Assistant Coach for the San Antonio Spurs (1989-1990), Los Angeles Clippers (1990-1991), Miami Heat (1991-1995), Detroit Pistons (1995-1997), New Orleans Hornets (2003-2004), Phoenix Suns (2004-2008), Los Angeles Clippers (2013-2014), and Golden State Warriors (2014-2015). Gentry, in the 2014-2015 NBA Season, helped lead the Golden State Warriors to an NBA Championship.

Alvin Gentry was born on November 5, 1954, in Shelby, North Carolina. Gentry attended Shelby High School and went on to play at and graduate from Appalachian State University. Before starting his NBA coaching career, Gentry worked in a private business for a year followed by assistant coaching eight years in college (Baylor, Colorado, & Kansas). Coach Gentry and his wife, Suzanne, have three children (Matthew, Ryan, & Alexis).
