BILLY DONOVAN
CHICAGO BULLS HEAD COACH
Billy Donovan is the Head Coach of the Chicago Bulls. On September 22, 2020, Donovan became the 24th Head Coach* in Bulls History.
Prior to joining the Bulls in 2020, Coach Donovan was the Head Coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder (2015-2020). As the Coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Donovan held a regular season record of 243-157 and led the Thunder to the playoffs for five consecutive seasons. In the 2019-2020 NBA Season, Coach Donovan was named the 2020 Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year co-recipient, alongside Coach Mike Budenholzer. Prior to his time in the NBA, Coach Donovan was the Head Coach at Marshall University (1994-1996) and the University of Florida (1996-2015). Throughout his time in the NCAA, Coach Donovan earned two National Championships (2006 & 2007), four Final Four appearances (2000, 2006, 2007, & 2014), and was named the SEC Coach of the Year three times (2011, 2013, & 2014).
Donovan was born on May 30,1965, in Rockville Centre, New York. He attended St. Agnes Cathedral High School and went on to play for Providence College, where he played four years and averaged 20.6 points per game; Donovan helped lead the 1987 Friars team to the Final Four. Donovan was then drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 3rd round of the 1987 NBA Draft. Coach Donovan and his wife Christine has four children (Conor, Bryan, Hasbrouck Anne, & Billy III). In 2006, the United States Sports Academy presented Donovan with the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award, an award that is given to an individual that exhibits a high standard of propriety, imagination, and innovation as a character-builder.
