MITCHELL JOHNSON

Mitchell Johnson is the Head Coach of the San Antonio Spurs. On May 2, 2025, Johnson became the 19th Head Coach* in Spurs’ history.
Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Coach Johnson was an Assistant Coach for the team under Head Coach Gregg Popovich (2019-2025), where he helped the team reach an NBA Playoffs appearance (2019). Prior to joining the Spurs, he was an Assistant Coach for the NBA G-League San Antonio Spurs’ affiliate, the Austin Spurs under Head Coaches Ken McDonald (2016-2017) and Blake Ahearn (2017-2019), where he helped the team to win an NBA G League Championship (2018).
Mitchell Johnson was born on November 29, 1986, in Seattle, Washington. He attended and played at Stanford University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology. Coach Johnson had a three-year professional playing career, with stops in the NBA G League and in Europe, including Germany and Belgium.
