The membership of the National Basketball Coaches Association joins the NBA family in mourning the passing of longtime NBA Coach and Executive, Frank Layden. Frank was one of the sports world’s most colorful personalities and whose impact on the game transcended well beyond his coaching and front office contributions. Frank is the only person in NBA history to win NBA Coach of the Year, NBA Executive of the Year, and the NBA J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in the same year (1984). He was also the recipient of the 2019 NBCA Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award. Frank was well-known throughout his career for his never-ending promotion of the NBA and using his trademark sense of humor to create a connection and convey a point when speaking to crowds.

Layden will be remembered not only as a Coach and Executive, but also as a mentor to so many in the basketball community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Layden family during this difficult time.
