ATLANTA, GA —– Atlanta Hawks players, coaches and cheerleaders teamed with soldiers from Fort Gordon to visit veterans and their families at the Atlanta VA Medical Center on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
“We can say ‘thank you,’ but ‘thank you’ is not enough for what these people have done for us, what they continue to do for our country, fighting for our freedom. We’re here today because of them,” said Hawks forward Paul Millsap.
The team and cheerleaders were split into groups and paired with currently-enlisted troops as they made their rounds visiting veterans and surprising them with gifts as a token of the organization’s gratitude for their service. Patients in the hospital were given Hawks t-shirts and autographs, and also posed for photos with the players, coaches and cheerleaders.
