This past Tuesday the Bobcats teamed up with Family Dollar and Wells Fargo to pack 10,000 care kits for our troops serving around the world. Volunteers started showing up at Time Warner Cable® Arena at 5:00 am to unpack the Family Dollar truck filled with more than 140,000 different items to be assembled in our care kits. More than 400 volunteers from all three organizations spent the entire day prepping the items for our care kits and were joined by the Bobcats team and coaching staff to pack all of the care kits for distribution. Executives and staff worked side by side with the players and coaches to fill each care kit with the items our troops request the most including: sunblock, lip balm, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and, most importantly, hand written letters thanking them for their service and sacrifice.
In addition to showing appreciation for our troops deployed overseas, we wanted to make sure we honored all our veterans who have returned home to North Carolina. Wells Fargo, as part of a season long community initiative with the Bobcats, donated $100,000 to Central Piedmont Community College’s Veteran Employment Initiative and $50,000 to Charlotte Bridge Home. Both organizations provide resources and guidance to our service men and women as they transition back into civilian life. It was a great day at Time Warner Cable® Arena! Many thanks to Family Dollar and Wells Fargo for making this event possible. More importantly, thank you to all of the men and women who give up so much to serve our country every day.
