Dusty May is the Head Coach of the Dallas Mavericks. On June 22, 2026, May became the 11th Head Coach* in Mavericks history.

Dusty May was born on December 30, 1976, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He attended Indiana University, where he was a student manager and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Prior to his NBA coaching career, Coach May was the Head Coach for the Wolverines at the University of Michigan (2024-2026), where he led the team to a cumulative record of 64-13, two NCAA Tournament berths, and an NCAA National Championship (2026). Prior to joining the Wolverines, he was the Head Coach for the Owls at Florida Atlantic University (2018-2024), where he led the team to a Final Four appearance (2023). Prior to joining the Owls, Coach May was the Assistant Coach for the Gators at the University of Florida under Head Coach Michael White (2015-2018), where he helped the team reach an NCAA Tournament berth (2018) and the Elite Eight (2017). Prior to joining the Gators, he was the Assistant Coach for the Bulldogs at Louisiana Tech University under Head Coaches Kerry Rupp (2009-2011) and Michael White (2011- 2015), where he helped the team to the Western Athletic Conference Championship (2013) and the Conference USA Championship (2014, 2015). Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Coach May was the Assistant Coach for the Blazers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under Head Coach Mike Davis (2007-2009). Prior to joining the Blazers, he was the Assistant Coach for the Racers at Murray State University under Head Coach Billy Kennedy (2006-2007). Prior to joining the Racers, Coach May was the Assistant Coach for the Eagles at Eastern Michigan University under Head Coach Charles Ramsey (2005-2006).
