Spurs coach Gregg Popovich might be a glutton for punishment.

The Spurs limped into Monday’s game against Memphis 2-8 in their previous 10 games, having slumped to sixth in the Western Conference, on a four-game losing streak at home, and — as always — an injury plagued mess.

“It’s been rewarding,” Popovich said, “as counterintuitive as that sounds.”

How so?

“It’s rewarding to see guys react to the minutes they are getting, these young guys that haven’t played much,” Popovich said. “The way they react to each other and stay good teammates while the lineups constantly change, they have shown a lot of patience with each other in that regard.”
