James Borrego is the Head Coach of the Charlotte Hornets. On May 10, 2018, Borrego became the 11th Head Coach in Hornets history.

Before becoming the Head Coach of the Hornets, Coach Borrego was an Assistant Coach for the San Antonio Spurs (2015-2018 & 2003-2010), Orlando Magic (2013-2015), and New Orleans Pelicans (2010-2012). In Coach’s first stint with the Spurs, he began as a video coordinator and was later promoted to an Assistant Coach, helping lead the organization to two NBA Championships (2005 & 2007). Coach Borrego gained his first head coaching experience during his time with the Magic, when he was named Interim Head Coach for the last 30 games in the 2014-2015 season.

James Borrego was born on November 12, 1977, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and went to Albuquerque Academy. He later attended the University of San Diego, where he played basketball all four years and in his senior year at the University of San Diego, he was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team. Coach and his wife, Megan have two children. In past off-seasons, Coach Borrego participated in the Basketball Without Borders Americas (2017), NBA Camp Cuba (2015), Basketball Without Borders Argentina (2013), and Basketball Without Borders Asia (2013). In 2018, Borrego became the first Hispanic full-time Head Coach in NBA history.
