The membership of the National Basketball Coaches Association joins the NBA family in mourning the passing of longtime NBA Assistant Coach Ron Ekker. Ron’s coaching career spanned more than five decades in both the NCAA and NBA. He served as an Assistant Coach for the Dallas Mavericks (under Head Coach Don Nelson), the Cleveland Cavaliers (under Head Coach John Lucas), and the Orlando Magic (under Head Coach Johnny Davis). Coach Ekker was well-known throughout his career for his ability to communicate and teach the game of basketball. After his coaching career, Ron became an accomplished author, publishing 10 books on basketball, and was a skilled clinician traveling the globe to teach the game.
Ekker will be remembered not only as a Coach and teacher, but also as a mentor to so many in the basketball community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Ekker family during this difficult time.
