Great article by Candace Buckner of the Washington Post on how the NBA Coaches Association, led by Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle, responded to Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Lloyd Pierce’s call to action, in the wake of the death of George Floyd, by partnering with the Obama Foundation and Bryan Stevenson, the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. The NBA Coaches Association also created a panel of members, called NBA Coaches for Racial Justice, that is committed to police reform and voting rights. Throughout the article, Coach Pierce explains how in this seminal moment, the most important thing is for white people to understand what black people are fighting for and to join in.

NBA Coaches including Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr, Toronto Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse, Utah Jazz Head Coach Quin Snyder, Orlando Magic Head Coach Steve Clifford, and Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer also discuss how the white NBA Coaches are pushing themselves to not only speak out, but also to do more than have statements, by coming up with plans of action which include education initiatives, voting reform, and working to combat systemic racism in their respective NBA cities.
