“As the world continues to reckon with the ongoing effects of systemic racism, it’s important to understand the way Black people are disproportionately impacted by wrongful conviction, and all of its collateral consequences.” – Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Taylor Jenkins. Not only are innocent Black people more likely to experience wrongful conviction than innocent white people, but they also spend on average 45% longer wrongfully incarcerated before release and exoneration. The NBA Coaches Association joins Coach Jenkins, the Innocence Project and the Innocence Network in calling for greater accountability in our criminal justice system this Wrongful Conviction Day.
