DETROIT PISTONS HEAD COACH

J.B Bickerstaff is the Head Coach of the Detroit Pistons. On July 3rd, Bickerstaff became the 38th Head Coach* in Pistons history.

Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the Pistons, Coach Bickerstaff was the Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (2020-2024). During his time as a Head Coach he helped lead the organization to two consecutive playoff appearances (2023 & 2024). Coach Bickerstaff served as the organization’s Associate Head Coach (2019-2020). Before his time in Cleveland, Coach Bickerstaff was the Head Coach of the Memphis Grizzlies (2017-2019), and an Assistant Coach for the Grizzlies (2016-2017), Houston Rockets (2011-2015), Minnesota Timberwolves (2007-2011), and Charlotte Bobcats (2004-2007). He was named Head Coach of the Grizzlies, after serving as the Interim Head Coach in the final 63 games of the 2017-2018 season. In the 2018-2019 NBA season, Coach Bickerstaff led the Grizzlies to the 3rd best scoring defense in the NBA. In Houston, Coach Bickerstaff was named the interim Head Coach for 2015-2016 NBA Season, leading the organization to a playoff berth.

Bickerstaff was born on March 10, 1979, in Denver, Colorado. He went to East High School and then played at Oregon State University – Coach Bickerstaff became the youngest NCAA Division 1 player as a 17-year-old freshman in 1999. He later transferred to the University of Minnesota to finish his playing career. Coach Bickerstaff and his wife, Nikki, have three children and are on the board of The Details Foundation, which aims to reduce social isolation, provide funding for research, and promote avenues for a healthier lifestyle.
