NEW YORK KNICKS HEAD COACH

Mike Brown is the Head Coach of the New York Knicks. On July 8, 2025, Brown became the 31st Head Coach * in Knicks’ history.

Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the Knicks, Coach Brown served as Head Coach of the Sacramento Kings (2022-2024), where he led the team to the playoffs (2023) and won NBA and NBCA Coach of the Year (2023). In 2016, he became an Assistant Coach for the Golden State Warriors under Head Coach Steve Kerr, where he helped lead the team to three NBA Championships. (2017, 2018, & 2022). In 2011, Coach Brown became the Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, where he led the team to the playoffs. Prior to his time with the Lakers, he served as Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-2010), where he led the team to an NBA Finals appearance (2007), two Eastern Conference Finals appearances (2007 & 2009), and won NBA Coach of the Year (2009). Coach Brown was also Assistant Coach of the Indiana Pacers under Head Coach Rick Carlisle (2003), where he helped lead the team to two consecutive playoff appearances and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. He also served as Assistant Coach of the San Antonio Spurs under Head Coach Gregg Popovich (2000-2003), where he helped lead the team to the 2003 NBA Championship and two Western Conference appearances (2002 & 2003). Coach Brown’s first season as an Assistant Coach was with the Washington Wizards (1997-1999) under Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff.

Mike Brown was born on March 5, 1970, in Columbus, Ohio. Brown attended and played at the University of San Diego, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Coach Brown was named the Head Coach of the Nigerian National Team in 2020.
