JOE MAZZULLA
BOSTON CELTICS HEAD COACH
Joe Mazzulla is the Head Coach of the Boston Celtics. On February 16, 2023, Mazzulla became the 19th Head Coach* in Celtics history.
Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the Celtics, Coach Mazzulla was an Assistant Coach for the team under Head Coaches Brad Stevens (2019-2021) and Ime Udoka (2021-2022), where he helped the team reach the NBA Finals (2022). Prior to joining the Celtics, he was an Assistant Coach for the NBA G League Boston Celtics affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, under Head Coach Scott Morrison (2016-2017), where he helped the team reach a NBDL Playoff berth.
Joe Mazzulla was born on June 30, 1988, in Johnston, Rhode Island. He attended and played at West Virginia University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise psychology, Spanish, and business and a master’s degree in athletic coaching. During Coach Mazzulla’s time at West Virginia University, he helped the team to advance to the NCAA Tournament all four years and was named to the Big East Academic All-Star Team three times. Prior to his NBA coaching career, Coach Mazzulla was an Assistant Coach at Glenville State and Fairmont State University.
