CLEVELAND CAVALIERS HEAD COACH

Kenny Atkinson is the Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. On June 28, 2024, Atkinson became the 24th Head Coach* in Cavaliers history.

Prior to joining the Cavaliers, Coach Atkinson was an Assistant Coach for the Golden State Warriors under Head Coach Steve Kerr (2021-2024), where he helped the team win an NBA Championship (2022). Prior to joining the Golden State Warriors, he was an Assistant Coach for the Los Angeles Clippers under Head Coach Tyronn Lue (2020-2021), where he helped the team reach the NBA Western Conference Finals. Prior to joining the Clippers, he was the Head Coach of the Brooklyn Nets (2016-2020), where he led the team to an NBA Playoff berth (2019). Prior to joining the Nets, Coach Atkinson was an Assistant Coach for the Atlanta Hawks under Head Coaches Larry Drew (2012-2013) and Mike Budenholzer (2013-2016), where he helped the team reach the NBA Eastern Conference Finals (2015). Prior to joining the Hawks, he was an Assistant Coach for the New York Knicks under Head Coaches Mike D’Antoni (2008-2012) and Mike Woodson (2012), where he helped lead the team to an NBA Playoff berth (2012).

Kenny Atkinson was born on June 2, 1967, in Northport, New York. He attended and played for the University of Richmond, where he led the Spiders to a Sweet Sixteen berth in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament (1988). Coach Atkinson had a 14-year professional playing career with stops overseas in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and Amsterdam.
